Andhikhola Mahseer Conservation Project

MOOL’s first project begins in the Andhikhola in Syangja, with a vision to protect the Golden Mahseer and restore the living river it depends upon. Our objective is to secure a ban on destructive and polluting activities and bring an end to rampant, uncontrolled and foul fishing, giving Mahseer populations the protection, habitat and time they need to recover, breed and repopulate the river.

That recovery is the foundation of a larger ambition: to make Andhikhola Nepal’s number one destination for responsible catch-and-release angling, attracting anglers from across the world. A destination where the privilege of encountering a Golden Mahseer comes with the responsibility of returning it safely to the water.

Our vision places riverine communities at the heart of this future. Local guides, homestays, food, transport and community enterprises can turn angling tourism into lasting livelihoods, bringing tourism revenue directly to the people who live beside and safeguard the river.

For MOOL, this is conservation with an economic purpose: a healthier river, a thriving Mahseer population and communities whose prosperity grows with the life they protect.
